This Journal recommends that authors follow the recommendations below. Please, ensure before submitting your paper, that you read these guidelines. Manuscripts that do not answer these guidelines may be returned.

 

1. About the Journal

French Journal of Occupational Therapy (FJOT) is an international, peer-reviewed journal publishing high-quality, original research paper. This journal publishes manuscripts in English [British] and French [France]. The ANFE (Association Nationale Française des Ergothérapeutes) is the editor.

FJOT is an access free online journal published two times a year.

FJOT’s main aim is to publish articles with relevance to occupational therapy, occupation and occupational science, meeting operational aims.

The operational aims are: to advance practice in occupational therapy, to produce knowledge in research, practice, education and policy in occupational therapy, to promote evidence based practice, to develop assessment and intervention tools in occupational therapy, to support efficiency and effectiveness of occupational therapy interventions or program.

 

Types of articles

FJOT publishes original scientific articles, literature reviews (scoping reviews, systematic reviews, meta analysis), brief reports, editorials, letters to the editor. Narrative review, case studies, opinion pieces, testimonials or summary sheets (reading, methods) are not accepted. Authors of these types of articles are invited to submit their manuscripts to ErgOThérapies french Journal.

 

2. Open Access

There are no submission fees, publication fees or page charges for this journal.

All articles are in open access. Copyright allows you to protect your original material and stop others from using your work without your permission.

 

3. Peer Review

Once your paper has been assessed for suitability by the editor, it will then be double blind peer reviewed by independent, anonymous expert referees.

Authors are expected to provide two expert reviewers in field of study. They may be contacted at the discretion of the editorial board. Their names and contacts will be specified in the cover letter.

 

4. Preparing Your Paper

FJOT asks authors to upload several separate documents when submitting:

• A cover letter
• A title page
• The full manuscript of the article (without the title page)
• The checklist corresponding to the type of article.

These elements are described below.

 

Cover letter

A cover letter should be provided, where authors vouch for the accuracy of the manuscript according to the guidelines given here. In this letter, authors may inform the Editors of any special circumstances or details regarding the submitted material, including prior publication of the material/parts of the material in a minority language.

The author should always make a full statement to the editor about all submissions and previous reports that might be considered as redundant or duplicate publication of the same or very similar work.

In this letter, the author proposes two reviewers who are experts on the subject: he/she must give their name, affiliation and contact details.

 

Title page

Title must reflect the content of the manuscript and be succinct. The title must be translated into French and English.

List, in order for publication, full names of all authors and indicate their current position and institutional for each of them.

Please ensure everyone meeting the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE) requirements for authorship is included as an author of your paper.

Give the name, address, e-mail address of the corresponding author. Telephone and fax numbers are optional.

Please submit the title page as a separate file to facilitate double-blind peer-review.

 

Manuscript (main text)

An article can be up to a maximum of 5500 words.

The article should be written with the following elements in the following order, and will be uploaded as a single file during the submission process:

• title page;
• abstract;
• keywords;
• main text introduction, materials and methods, results, discussion, methodological considerations / limitations, conclusion;
• acknowledgments;
• declaration of interest statement;
• references;
• appendices (as appropriate);
• table(s) with caption(s) (on individual pages);
• figures;
• figures and tables captions (as a list).

 

Style Guidelines

Please use British (-ize) or French (France) spelling style consistently throughout your manuscript.

Papers may be submitted in Word or Openoffice format.

The text should be double-spaced with generous margins. The preferred font style is Times New Roman in size 12. Smaller spaces and fonts may be used for references, tables and figure captions.

 

Structure and methodology by type of article

Methodologies of papers must follow some rules regarding Prisma, Consort, Strobe guidelines.

In particular, the following recommendations can be drawn upon:

• Case reports - CARE
• Diagnostic accuracy - STARD
• Observational studies - STROBE
• Randomized controlled trial - CONSORT
• Systematic reviews, meta-analyses - PRISMA

These rules can be viewed and downloaded from the Equator Network platform: https://www.equator-network.org/. The checklist corresponding to the type of article must be downloaded, completed, and provided with the manuscript at the time of submission.

 

Detailed structure of the manuscript

• Title must reflect the content of the manuscript and be succinct. The title must be translated into French and English.

• A structured abstract of 250 words provided with the headings Title, Background, Aims/Objectives, Material and Methods, Results, Conclusions, mandatory in English [British] and in French [France] optional. Abbrevations and acronyms should be avoided unless absolute necessity.
• between 4 and 6 keywords are required in alphabetical order.

• The introduction should explain the background of the study grounded in relevant and updated literature. The introduction must provide a rationale of the study and explain the significance for occupational therapy. The primary aim, hypotheses or research questions should be clearly described.
• The material and methods section should justify methods of data collection and analysis, give sufficient detail to allow other investigators replication of the study and describe new methods in detail. The design and investigated population should be appropriate for the research problem stated and aim of the study. Consider reliability, validity, trustworthiness, and credibility of the instruments and procedures. Use appropriate statistical and qualitative analyses and procedures. Ethical considerations should be accounted for.
• The results section should be concise and focus on findings relevant to the aim of the study. When relevant, use pertinent quotations as illustrations to qualitative findings. Figures and tables should be adequately annotated and enhance the presentation of material. Avoid presenting data in more than one form.
• The discussion section should give critical assessment of the results of the study in view of previously reported research. The implication of the study for occupational therapy must be outlined. The contribution to the current state of knowledge must be figured out. Methodological considerations/limitations should be addressed as well as further areas of work.
• Conclusion should provide a clear summary of the main findings of the study. In relation to the aim, significance of the findings for occupational therapy are highlighted. Avenues for future research should be suggested.
• Acknowledgments must state funding and sources of support in the form of e.g. grants or equipment on a separate Acknowledgements page. All individuals who have contributed to the research should be included.

• Please include a declaration of interest, using the subheading “Disclosure of interest”. Any financial interest or benefit arising from the direct application of the research must be acknowledged in this statement. If you have no interests to declare, please state this (suggested wording: The authors report no conflict of interest).

• Information about data sharing: If a dataset is associated with the article, the author should explain where data relating to the results or analyses presented in the article can be found. This should include a DOI hyperlink or other persistent identifier associated with the dataset.
• References: FJOT uses APA 7^th edition for general writing style, headings, quotation and referencing. Manuscripts that do not follow the APA 7^th edition formatting will be considered as unsubmitted and the author(s) will be asked to revise their manuscript. https://apastyle.apa.org/products/publication-manual-7th-edition
• Tables / figures: Tables should provide new information rather than elements already detailed in the text. The table should be interpeted without referring to the text. Please supply editable files. Figures should be high quality (1200 dpi for line art, 600 dpi for grayscale and 300 dpi for colour, at the correct size). Figures should be supplied in one of our preferred file formats: JPEG, PNG, TIFF, or Microsoft Word (DOC or DOCX) files. Tables and figures should be recorded at the end of the main text, followed by a list of captions for all tables and figures. To ensure correct placement in the journal layout, note the figure reference (abbreviated) within brackets when referring to the figure in text, e.g. (Fig. 1).

 

5. Registering a Review Protocol

For experimental studies, the protocol of the research articles should be registered at CLINICAL TRIALS.

For literature reviews, the protocol for the review must be registered at either PROSPERO, for systematic reviews, or Open Science Framework or FigShare, for scoping reviews.

The registration numbers of the clinical trials should be given in the abstract, and full details in the methods section.

 

6. Complying With Ethics of Experimentation

Please ensure that all research reported in submitted papers has been conducted in an ethical and responsible manner, and is in full compliance with all relevant codes of experimentation and legislation (Jardé law for France).

All papers which report in vivo experiments or clinical trials on humans or animals must include a written statement in the Methods section. This should explain that all work was conducted with the formal approval of the local human subject or animal care committees (institutional and national), and that clinical trials have been registered as legislation requires. Authors who do not have formal ethics review committees should include a statement that their study follows the principles of the Declaration of Helsinki.
